Frequently Asked Questions
If you're learning piano with the aim of progressing through graded exams or playing classical music, we generally recommend an 88-key digital piano with weighted, hammer-action keys. This provides a playing experience closer to an acoustic piano and helps develop correct technique and finger control. For younger beginners, casual playing or musicians with limited space, a 61-key or 76-key keyboard can also be a good starting point. At Everest Music, we can help you choose the right instrument for your age, experience and budget.
Weighted, hammer-action keys are designed to replicate the resistance and feel of an acoustic piano, making them ideal for traditional piano lessons and graded examinations. Semi-weighted keys offer a lighter playing action and are commonly found on portable keyboards, MIDI controllers and some stage instruments. If you're learning classical piano, an 88-key weighted digital piano is usually the better long-term choice.
This depends on the model and package you choose. Cabinet-style digital pianos generally include an integrated stand and pedal system, while portable digital pianos may be supplied separately or as part of a bundle with a stand, sustain pedal, headphones or piano bench. We offer a range of digital piano packages at Everest Music, so please check the individual product description to see exactly what's included. Most stands require some assembly, and our team can advise on setup requirements before purchase.
Most digital piano stands and cabinet models are supplied flat-packed and require some assembly. Assembly instructions are normally included by the manufacturer. For selected larger digital pianos in Dublin and County Wicklow, please contact our team to discuss whether additional setup assistance can be arranged. Assembly and installation are not automatically included with every purchase.
When comparing digital pianos, we recommend looking at the keyboard action, piano sound quality, speaker system, pedal functions, connectivity and overall size. Features such as Bluetooth, USB MIDI and headphone connections may also be important depending on how you plan to use the instrument. Our team at Everest Music & Piano Centre can help you compare models from brands such as Roland, NUX and Medeli, explaining the differences in straightforward terms so you can choose the best digital piano for your needs and budget.
A good-quality digital piano can provide many years of reliable use, often 10–15 years or longer with appropriate care, although lifespan varies depending on the model, usage and environment. Keeping your instrument away from excessive moisture, direct sunlight and extreme temperatures can help protect the keyboard action and electronics. Regular cleaning and careful handling will also help maintain your digital piano. Choosing a reputable manufacturer and a model suited to your playing needs is a good investment for long-term enjoyment.
Stage pianos are generally designed for live performance, rehearsals and recording. They are usually more portable and offer connections for amplifiers, PA systems and other music equipment. Home or cabinet digital pianos are designed to resemble traditional upright pianos, often featuring built-in speakers, integrated stands and three-pedal systems. If you mainly practise at home, a cabinet digital piano may be ideal. If you regularly perform or need to transport your instrument, a stage piano could be the better option. Everest Music stocks both styles to suit different musicians and budgets.
